Capable of totally replacing modern RSS reader services like the defunct Google Reader and the currently successful Feedly, Miniflux is a self-hosted alternative which you can run if you want to put a premium on privacy and security.
While still not rivaling the aforementioned when it comes to a full set of features, Miniflux is very much usable nevertheless, a simple tool to read multiple RSS feeds and news stories without having to manually navigate to each URL every time.
Miniflux doesn't need any special installation procedures. Just download, unzip, and move to a Web server. The default backend username & password are admin/admin, so authenticate and start adding content.
The reader comes with a very light and fast loading UI, very user friendly and easy to use. OPML files can be imported and exported out of the system, so you also won't be stuck using this service alone, or have to add hundreds of feeds manually into it.
All in all, Miniflux is quite a nice tool to work with, a much simpler and very much faster RSS reader than you've been previously used to.
